- I have a story that's been cooking in my mind for a long time, and I have a several hundred words down on paper but hit a few hurdles (more life demands than writer's block, but none too little of the latter.) I've found that creating fiction is a very different endeavor than reading it so I found this book to be a great way of framing the writing process. C.S. Johnson is warm, witty, and a bit of a goofball, which makes the read quick and enjoyable. It felt like an opportunity to sit and talk shop with someone who's done it before.
As for the metaphor, if you expect readers to take your book to bed, it only makes sense to write like it. - If you want to be a better fantasy or fiction writer, then this book is for you! C.S. Johnson coaches would-be writers or writers wanting to improve their craft using sex as her analogy. In her book, she states, "Good writing is like good sex. It's part mental, part emotional, part physical, and part spiritual." Her intention is not to encourage promiscuity, but to promote a holistic and fresh take on what it means to write well.
She also states, "This book has no guarantees to make you a better writer.... But while this book and its metaphors make no promises, I can honestly say that, if nothing else, you should get a few laughs out of it." Studies have shown that the best way to learn is to have fun while doing so, and this book delivers that!

A smirk-inducing, informal discussion on what makes a story great,and how to make your story a pleasure for readers..Loved every page,and recommend this for writers,and those who want to know the process that wonderful books are planned,and written...Great for us non-authors also!

- It's rare to find a book that's both informative and fun to read, but this book is both. It's full of good, solid, common sense advice that anyone starting out as a writer could benefit from. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
